Families needing serious space and comfort will find plenty to like in this carefully chosen list of ten vehicles. Each one offers generous room and practical features designed for bigger groups without fluff or unnecessary drama.
1. Mercedes V-Class
This is a classic choice for large families: elegant yet purposeful. The V-Class’s cabin is vast, with sliding doors, adjustable seats, and loads of luggage space. Your passengers can stretch out in comfort, and the ride is smooth and refined. It’s ideal for longer trips or when you simply don’t want to compromise on luxury and practicality.
2. Dacia Jogger
Surprisingly spacious given its price tag, the Jogger brings seven-seat flexibility at an affordable level. It scored Auto Express Family Car of the Year in 2023 thanks to thoughtful design: fold-out picnic trays, plenty of cubbies, and a modular roof-rack on upper trims. With all seats up you get around 160 to 212 litres of boot space, but folding or removing rows gives up to 1,800–2,085 litres. Perfect for families who want rugged usability and decent economy.
3. Vauxhall Vivaro Life Electric
If low running costs and emissions-free travel are priorities, the Vivaro Life Electric delivers. Seating for seven to nine, sliding doors, and strong cargo capacity make family logistics easy, especially ideal for school runs and errands around town.
4. Land Rover Defender 110
Rugged and refined, the Defender 110 offers off-road ability and generous cabin space. Its optional seven-seat layout is comfortable for children and adults, with a commanding driving position and durable finishes. Ideal if your family adventures take you beyond motorways.
5. Kia EV9
A striking all-electric SUV, about the same footprint as a Land Rover Defender 110, with room for six or seven. Boot space sitting is around 333 litres, rising to 828 litres with the third row folded and over 2,300 litres with both rows stowed. Practical touches include a flat floor, multiple USB-C ports, cupholders galore, and even a three-pin socket in the boot to power stuff like a cooler or vacuum cleaner. Six captain-chair mid-row layouts (in GT-Line) make access easy, and Isofix anchors are provided across both rear rows.
For full boot dimensions and details on how many electric miles a Defender can run, you can use a car checker service. It provides plenty of information about the car for free, or a detailed background history for about £10.
6. Lexus LM
For those wanting premium space, the Lexus LM offers a high-end MPV experience. Plush second-row captain’s chairs, whisper-quiet ride (especially in hybrid guise), and detailed cabin finishes set it apart, ideal if long journeys and travelling in comfort are priorities.
7. Volkswagen ID. Buzz
A modern electric reinterpretation of the classic people-carrier. The ID. Buzz seats seven and has flexible interior layouts, iconic styling, and zero tailpipe emissions. It’s eminently friendly, easy to drive, and suited to daily runs or longer family outings.
8. Range Rover
With choice of long-wheelbase seven-seat layouts, the Range Rover delivers space and opulence. Third-row seating is generous for children and shorter adults, while the cabin is stuffed with creature comforts: massaging front seats, premium audio, advanced driver aids and serious towing ability when needed.
9. Citroën ë-Berlingo
Compact yet practical, the electric Berlingo seats five and offers low entry height, big doors, and a clever interior. Its cabin is flexible and easy to use, with upright seating and sliding doors that make everyday life such as loading kids and gear a breeze. While not seven-seat, it’s often more than enough for many families.
10. Nissan X-Trail (latest seven-seat version)
Nissan’s X-Trail brings traditional SUV refinement to a seven-seat layout. The third row works comfortably for children or occasional adult use, while boot space keeps up with most long-distance family needs. Reliable, safe, and easy to live with.
This selection covers vehicles built around families not just offering size, but real-world versatility, comfort and intelligent design. Whether you’re after no-nonsense usability, premium energy-efficiency, or off-road ruggedness, there’s a thoughtfully spaced companion here for your busy household.
